Elisa Messore

Individual Psychotherapy with Elisa Messore,LCSW-R

I help people recover a grounded sense of self, find safety and peace from within to better handle the difficulties that life throws our way.

In our work, we’ll learn to understand the impact of past and stressful events on your
current relationships and life circumstances then find meaningful ways to manage and
act in loving ways in support of your own best interests.

What can a person do when things go wrong and life becomes unmanageable. Perhaps your efforts to find your footing only seem to worsen the difficulties or maybe things get a bit better but you’re left with anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed, or numb. Difficult relationships with loved ones, suffering from loss and change, frustration or uncertainty at work, not sure what you need, how to your needs get them met or even if they even matter.

I am dedicated to helping a diverse array of people from numerous cultural, racial, ethnic, religious, social/economic and employment backgrounds, including arts and entertainment and the educational fields. I help people find relief from low mood, anxiety, trauma, deal with chronic illness, find the ground underfoot in the face of destabilizing change and loss, including aging and end of life related concerns. I am an LGBTQ affirmative provider and ally. I am committed to tested but creative and individual uses of the therapeutic process to achieve personal growth, and maintain safety and stability.

I began my career addressing addiction related health and mental health problems in an urban healthcare setting using cognitive behavioral strategies before having the privilege of going onto advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. I currently serve on the Training Committee for the Two year Program in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. My work is also enlivened by trauma training with Bessel van der Kolk (The Body Keeps the Score), Lisa Najavit’s Seeking Safety and the wealth of growing wisdom and practices in the trauma field as well as over 20 years of psychodynamic practice experience.
